Well, well, well…
Let the growing grass show and the flowers bloom for it is spring, babe!
🌷🌷🌷
Welcome to the new website, welcome spring! Thank you for exploring the site and visiting my first of who knows how many blog posts {!} I am hoping this can be another space to share more process and insights of projects that have been hAppening. YeS, this picture was taken in spring sunshine on the deck, and as I write this, temperatures are only slowly rising. This is a series of puppets made last spring, three puppets, three ages. One idea, one stage show!
This is the first story of how this little laughing baby became an obnoxious woman of a puppet singing loud… and pretty proud.
All I have now is the idea of the character with an inkling of her story. This is an investigation of the character through making.
While the story is in the works, I made her into a puppet. This way, we can explore, and she, the character, can look back at me, ask and answer and ask more questions.

And laugh back at me.. how ridiculous…
Oh, and why not meet her from the very beginning.
And make three puppets…
The making of a puppet is so joyful. The sculpt, color, joiNts, cOstumes adds life to the characters with each step. Which also makes for so many moments for silly little work-in-progress pictures. Here are some of my favorites.
The costume details are arguably the most challenging and exciting aspects of making the puppets. Stay tuned for many more posts about the making of these intricate little outfits.
Once the puppets were ready, it was time to bring them to life. I took the oldest, and most mature, puppet to the stage and explored her humor and philosophy, in her own Cabaret set. I left with a list of revisions and new thoughts. Progress!
Our character and her story will continue to evolve but I am very proud of thiS process and product. She reflects my sensibility and gives me great insights for what might make more sense next.
Thank you for reading.
